Session III – “How Emerging Managers & Heavy Hitters Compete”
Emerging Managers with less than 1 Billion in assets have been outperforming large funds for the last 15 years with an average of 15.9% returns versus 11.6% for larger funds. Large buyouts depend on leverage to generate high returns, but in the small end of the market, debt is less available and desirable — so value is created in different ways. Operational improvements, growth catalysts, risk mitigation are some of the instruments applied by "small cap" buyout funds. Are these avenues also available for middle market/mega funds now that the capital markets have contracted?
